In this live recording from the 1960s, the Kentucky Colonels are introduced as the best young bluegrass band in America. They certainly played bluegrass music at its best. Here is a great sample for your enjoyment with strident rapid-fire back-and-forth between Scotty Stoneman on fiddle, Clarence White on guitar, and Billy Ray Latham on banjo. Get the entire album if you can find it.
Thank you to those who go into harm's way so that others may live in freedom and the many who have given the ultimate sacrifice.
Train day at the Southern Arizona Transportation Museum. This is the first time we performed with a conductor. Train conductor that is. Bluegrass music, a scale model railroad operating nearby, demonstrations for kids, a cool & informative museum. And trains!!!
Rudy is looking a little too happy for a guy on a handcar trying to outrun a locomotive:
Trains!! We will be back to the Southern Arizona Transportation Museum May 13, 2017, 1 pm to 3 pm. Right in front of Locomotive 1673, where this picture was taken. Last time we had an encounter with Thomas the Tank Engine and Sir Topham Hat, it's a splendid railroad indeed. A family-friendly event, admission is free.
Our founding leader, Mark Krider came to visit in Tucson, April 22, 2017. Here we are at Saguaro Corners savoring a beautiful Tucson night of bluegrass music and good food. It was great having two banjo masters Mark Krider and Rudy Cortese playing twin banjos. Special guests Jaysyn Slayde on banjo and Doc Lundy on mandolin joined us onstage for a few tunes and we had three banjos going at once.
